Private Pilot's Licence

The training course for the Private Pilot’s Licence (PPL), currently calls for a minimum of 45 hours of flight training, broken down into a minimum of 25 hours of dual instruction, and a minimum of 10 hours of solo flying. The solo flying must include a minimum of 5 hours of solo cross-country flying, with a qualifying cross-country flight of 140 nautical miles including stops at two additional aerodromes. Please note, a medical examination is required prior to the first solo flight.
Ground school for the course requires a minimum of 100 hours of study (this includes pre-flight and post-flight briefings, lectures, interactive computer-based study and directed self study). Examinations (multiple choice format, maximum 20 questions), must be passed in the following subjects; 1. Aviation Law. 2. Operational Procedures. 3. Meteorology. 4. Navigation. 5. Aircraft General. 6. Principles of Flight. 7. Communications. 8. Flight Performance and Planning. 9. Human Performance and Limitations.
On completion of the course, a final flight test will be required

Instrument Meteorological Conditions (IMC) Rating

Subsequent to completing your PPL, an IMC Rating may be added, either in your own aircraft, or our airways equipped Cessna 172 aircraft

Differences Training

Tailwheel, Variable Pitch Propeller and Retractable Undercarriage differences training may be completed on your own aircraft. Please enquire about our rates

Class Rating

We can re-validate your Single Engine (Piston) Landplane rating at our Sandown facility
Renewal of a lapsed rating will require an appointment with our flying examiner, based at Shoreham airport

Night Rating

Night Rating training is currently unavailable. However, this may be offered in the future, as airfield facilities allow
